Maine High School Student Accused of Creating Hit List and Researching Weapons
A 14-year-old student at Windham High School in Maine is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he created a hit list and researched how to obtain weapons.
According to the Windham Police Department, officers were notified Tuesday of a potential threat involving the student after other students came forward with concerns. Investigators say the teen was using technology to research how to acquire weapons and had compiled a focused list of people he may have intended to target.
Because of his age, the student’s name has not been released.
Police say the student was quickly identified and charged with criminal solicitation, criminal conspiracy, and terrorizing. As of Thursday, he was placed under house arrest and is prohibited from being on any RSU 14 school property.
Authorities emphasized that there is no indication of any additional threats and said there is no reason to believe anyone is currently in danger.
RSU 14 Superintendent Chris Howell said the district’s priority is ensuring students feel safe and supported following the investigation.
“We want our students to feel safe and we want them to feel comfortable and know that they’re protected,” Howell said. “We also want them to know that we’ve done a thorough investigation.”
School officials and law enforcement say they will continue to monitor the situation and are encouraging students and families to report any concerns as a precaution.
