Wall Street Rallies to Open Christmas Week as Major Indexes Close Higher

Wall Street finished Monday’s trading session on a positive note, giving markets a strong start to Christmas week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 227.79 points to close at 48,362.68, a gain of nearly half a percent. The increase reflects continued investor confidence as trading volume picks up heading into the holiday-shortened week.
The S&P 500 also moved higher, rising 43.99 points to finish the day at 6,878.49. That marks a gain of 0.64 percent, as broad-based buying pushed the benchmark index further into record territory.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite added 121.21 points, closing at 23,428.83. The tech-heavy index gained just over half a percent, supported by strength across several technology and growth stocks.
Monday’s gains come as markets head into a shortened holiday schedule, with many traders watching for lighter volumes and potential volatility as the Christmas holiday approaches. Investors are also keeping an eye on economic data releases and year-end positioning as 2025 draws to a close.
Markets will continue trading through the week, though sessions will be shortened due to the holiday.
