Manny the Movie Guy Chats with Edgar Wright About "The Running Man"
Edgar Wright is bringing Stephen King back to the screen in a big way. The acclaimed director behind "Baby Driver" sat down with Manny the Movie Guy to talk about his new action thriller "The Running Man," now available to buy or rent on digital.
Wright first read King's 1982 dystopian novel as a teenager and knew the source material had untapped potential. "Even though I enjoyed that film, I knew there was a Stephen King book that hadn't really been adapted," Wright explained, noting how different the original 1987 movie was from the novel.
For his lead, Wright landed on Glenn Powell—a choice King himself has called "the perfect protagonist." Wright praised Powell's work in "Hit Man" and his everyman quality: "He's not an existing action hero at the start of the movie. He's an out of work dad, and so it's really important for the character to have this relatability, and Glenn has that in spades."
