Junior Firebirds Holiday Skate Brings Families to the Ice at Berger Foundation Iceplex

The holiday spirit was alive on the ice as families gathered for a festive Junior Firebirds family skate at the Berger Foundation Iceplex.

NBC Palm Springs Sports Desk reporter Tim O’Brien joined skaters on the ice during the midday newscast, sharing details about the event while catching his breath between laps. The skate was hosted by Junior Firebirds organizers Kay and Jeff Larson, who rented out the ice to give families, players, and coaches a chance to enjoy some holiday hockey together.

O’Brien noted that the event featured a mix of Junior Firebirds players, amateur skaters, and even coaches with NHL-level experience, creating a fun and energetic atmosphere for everyone involved. The family skate served as a warm-up for the main event happening Christmas Day.

An extended holiday skate is scheduled for Christmas Day from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Berger Foundation Iceplex. Skaters are welcome to arrive at any point during the three-hour session, making it easy for families to fit the activity into their holiday plans.

The Junior Firebirds holiday skate offers a chance to stay active, connect with the local hockey community, and enjoy some on-ice fun before the holiday indulgences begin.
