Regina Hall Reflects on Career, SpongeBob Role, and Looking Ahead to 2026

Regina Hall is closing out 2025 with a mix of career milestones, personal reflections, and excitement for what lies ahead.

Hall earned widespread praise this year for her performance in the black comedy thriller One Battle After Another, where she stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Teyana Taylor. While her role as Deandra is quieter than some of her co-stars, critics say her understated performance has left a lasting impression and sparked awards-season attention.

The film marks a notable shift for Hall, who first rose to fame through comedy, particularly her breakout role as Brenda Meeks in the Scary Movie franchise. Over the years, she has balanced mainstream comedies like About Last Night and Girls Trip with more complex roles in films such as Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul. and Master, proving her range across genres.

One of Hall’s biggest personal highlights of the year had nothing to do with live-action film. She says a lifelong dream came true when she landed a role in an animated feature tied to SpongeBob, calling the experience especially meaningful.

Looking back, Hall described the selection of Pope Leo XIV as her most memorable moment of 2025, noting the significance of the first American pope at a time when empathy and compassion feel especially needed worldwide.

As for getting through the tougher moments, Hall credits laughter with close friends, staying busy, good movies, and comfort snacks. She admits staying up late is a habit she hopes to leave behind in the new year, while carrying forward more time spent with loved ones.

Looking ahead to 2026, Hall says she’s most excited about the upcoming midterm elections and continuing to embrace projects that challenge and inspire her.
