Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Raw Oysters Sickens Dozens Across U.S.

Federal health officials are investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak tied to raw oysters that has sickened more than 60 people across at least 22 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. At least 20 of those affected have been hospitalized, though no deaths have been reported at this time.

The CDC says no recall has been issued so far because investigators have not yet identified a single common source for the contaminated oysters. The Food and Drug Administration is also involved in the investigation as officials work to determine where the shellfish may have originated.

Health experts are urging consumers to avoid eating raw or undercooked oysters, particularly those who are at higher risk for severe illness, including older adults and people with weakened immune systems. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue tracking the source of the outbreak.
