35-Year-Old Cathedral City Man Arrested on Suspicion of Assault
CATHEDRAL CITY (CNS) - A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of
assault, the Cathedral City Police Department announced today.
The assault was reported on Saturday around 10:20 p.m. in the 30900
block of San Gabriel Circle.
Officers at the scene found that a 40-year-old Cathedral City woman
and her fiance -- identified as Raymond Elias, also of Cathedral City -- were
allegedly involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical
altercation.
Elias allegedly assaulted his fiance causing visible injuries,
retrieved a handgun and pointed it at the victim before she was able to flee
the residence to seek help, according to the police department. Responding
officers located Elias at the residence and took him into custody without
further incident.
Elias was subsequently booked at the John Benoit Detention Center on
suspicion of assault with a firearm, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or
cohabitant and criminal threats. He was expected to appear in court on
Wednesday at the Indio Larson Justice Center.
Officers allegedly seized several firearms from the residence during
the investigation.
The woman's name was withheld.
Anyone with additional information was encouraged to contact Officer
