Trump Pushes Peace Talks with Israel and Ukraine as Russia Raises New Accusations
For a second straight day, President Trump stepped into the role of global peacemaker, meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the future of Gaza and the next phase of a fragile ceasefire. The truce, in place since October, has paused nearly two years of fighting. Phase two of the plan would involve Israel withdrawing troops from Gaza and Hamas relinquishing its weapons, something Trump warned must happen to avoid consequences.
Trump also issued a caution to Iran, saying the U.S. would act swiftly if Tehran attempts to rebuild its military capabilities, while leaving the door open to renewed negotiations.
A day earlier, the president met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago to discuss ending the nearly four-year war with Russia. Trump acknowledged major sticking points remain, including control of the Donbas region and Europe’s largest nuclear power plant. Ukraine has signaled a willingness to compromise, but Russia is demanding broader concessions.
Tensions escalated further after Russia accused Ukraine of launching a drone attack targeting a residence linked to President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky denied the claim, accusing Russia of spreading false information to undermine peace talks. Trump confirmed he discussed the alleged attack with Putin during a phone call, but said he remains optimistic that a deal to end the war is within reach.
Despite growing challenges, the White House says diplomatic efforts continue on multiple fronts as the administration pushes for negotiated solutions to two of the world’s most volatile conflicts.
