Lane Closures, Road Detours Coming to South Palm Canyon Bridge in January

The South Palm Canyon Bridge project is heading into its next phase in the new year, bringing traffic impacts drivers will want to plan around.

The bridge has been under construction as part of a larger replacement and improvement effort. Starting Monday, Jan. 5, crews will begin gas line installation work that requires digging and saw cutting on the roadway.

During the week of Jan. 5, daytime lane closures will reduce traffic on the bridge to a single lane, with flaggers directing vehicles through. The traffic signal at East Sunny Dunes Road will be set to flashing red during this time.

The following week brings more significant closures. From Monday, Jan. 12 through Friday, South Palm Canyon Drive will be fully closed between East Sunny Dunes Road and Mesquite Avenue from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night. Crews will also be relocating palm trees during this phase. Drivers will be detoured to Belardo Road.

Businesses along the corridor will remain open and accessible throughout construction. Build in extra time if you're traveling through the area, and check www.SouthPalmCanyonBridge.com for updates.
