Palm Desert Launches Free Spay and Neuter Voucher Program to Combat Pet Overpopulation

Palm Desert is taking action to address pet overpopulation by offering free spay and neuter vouchers to city residents beginning January 5, while supplies last. The program is designed to help keep pets healthy and reduce the number of animals entering already crowded shelters across the Coachella Valley.

Residents can pick up vouchers at the Discover Palm Desert Visitor Center, located inside the Palm Desert Library on Fred Waring Drive. To qualify, participants must provide proof of Palm Desert residency and are limited to a maximum of four vouchers per household.

Once a voucher is obtained, residents must contact Animal Samaritans to request spay or neuter services. City officials say the program supports responsible pet ownership and provides meaningful assistance to local animal welfare efforts.

The initiative is expected to benefit both pet owners and the broader community by reducing unwanted litters and easing the strain on regional animal shelters.
