Two Arrested, Dozens Cited During DUI Checkpoint in Indio
Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and 43 citations were issued during a DUI checkpoint operation conducted over the weekend in Indio, authorities said.
The checkpoint took place from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday on Highway 111 west of Clinton Street, according to the Indio Police Department.
Police said 11 citations were issued to drivers suspected of operating vehicles without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license. In addition, one driver was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.
The DUI enforcement operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Authorities reminded motorists that DUI checkpoints are aimed at reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety.
