Palm Springs Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting at Cyclist in Cathedral City

A Palm Springs man is in custody on attempted homicide charges after authorities say he hit a cyclist with his car and then shot at him in Cathedral City on Tuesday afternoon.

Cathedral City police responded around 1:09 p.m. to reports of a shooting near Porter Road and Rodeo Road. Officers learned that 47-year-old John Nicholas Duran had been in a verbal argument with a 40-year-old man on a bicycle. According to police, Duran struck the victim with his vehicle, then turned around, stopped near the victim, and fired one shot from his car window. The shot missed. Duran fled before officers arrived.

Cathedral City Fire treated the cyclist at the scene for pain; he was not taken to the hospital.

Later that evening, the Riverside Gang Impact Team located Duran in Rancho Mirage. He was arrested and booked into John J. Benoit Detention Center on felony charges, including attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.
