Fido Fridays: Meet Hershey!
A new community program is giving shelter dogs a chance to get out, explore, and connect—and it’s already making a difference.
The program, called FIDO, was created by members of the community and allows local residents to take a dog out of the shelter for the day. The goal is to give dogs a break from the kennel while helping them show their true personalities in real-world settings. This week, our Community Contributor Jen Agnew spent the day with Hershey, a friendly and energetic dog who quickly made the most of his time outside the shelter. From enjoying fresh air to soaking up extra attention, Hershey showed just how much a single day out can mean.
Organizers say programs like FIDO not only benefit the dogs’ mental and emotional well-being, but also help increase their chances of being adopted.
If you’re interested in adopting Hershey contact the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms. And if you want to participate in the Fido program, contact Pam Solek at pam.solek@gmail.com
