Stormy Weather Causes Road Closures Across the Valley

Severe storm conditions moved through the Coachella Valley on Thursday, leading to flooding and multiple road closures in Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs.

In Palm Springs, early Thursday reports indicated that a driver had to be rescued after becoming trapped due to flooding on the west end of the city. Heavy rainfall caused wash areas to overflow, prompting officials to close several major roadways for safety reasons.

As of Friday morning, the following streets remain closed at the wash:

  • Araby Street

  • Indian Canyon Drive

  • Gene Autry Trail

  • East Vista Chino

The closures began Wednesday night and continue to impact both Palm Springs residents and commuters traveling to and from Desert Hot Springs, as Indian Canyon Drive, Gene Autry Trail, and Vista Chino are key routes between the two cities.

City officials urge drivers to plan alternate routes, obey all posted traffic control signs, and never attempt to cross flooded roadways, as conditions can change rapidly and pose serious safety risks.

Authorities say updates will be provided as conditions improve and roads begin to reopen. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and check for the latest traffic and weather information before heading out.
