Michael Reagan, Son of President Ronald Reagan, Dies at 80 in Los Angeles

Michael Reagan, the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan, has died at the age of 80, according to a family statement released Sunday. Reagan passed away in Los Angeles surrounded by family. No cause of death was disclosed.
In a joint statement, his wife Colleen and daughters Cameron Reagan and Ashley Reagan Dunster said Michael Reagan “was and will always remain a beloved husband, father and grandpa.” The family added that he was “called home to be with the Lord” on January 4 and requested privacy as they grieve.
Michael Reagan was adopted shortly after birth by Ronald Reagan and actress Jane Wyman, the late president’s first wife. He was one of five children of the former president. His adoptive sister, Maureen Reagan, died in 2001 at age 60.
Throughout his career, Reagan was a prominent conservative political commentator and syndicated radio talk show host. He was a longtime contributor to Newsmax, where he also served as a columnist and on-air analyst. Newsmax described him as a founding analyst who played a significant role in the network’s growth.
Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy said Reagan was “the living embodiment of his father’s legacy,” praising his dedication to faith, family, and conservative ideals. Ruddy added that Reagan worked tirelessly to promote the principles championed by President Reagan and was deeply devoted to his family and country.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation also released a statement, calling Michael Reagan “a steadfast guardian of his father’s legacy” and honoring a life shaped by conviction and purpose.
Reagan was also an author, writing several books including “Michael Reagan: On the Outside Looking In” and “Twice Adopted,” which detailed his life, adoption, and relationship with the Reagan family.
