Police Seek Suspect After Daylight Stabbing on CV Link

Palm Springs police are continuing their search for a suspect after a man was stabbed while taking his routine walk along the CV Link transportation corridor, an incident that has unsettled residents who regularly use the popular pathway.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD), the attack occurred in broad daylight on Cathedral Canyon, a section of the roughly 40-mile CV Link designed to provide a safe space for walking, biking, running, and even golf cart travel. Police say violent crime is uncommon along the route, with most complaints typically involving unauthorized vehicles.

Investigators report that the victim initially crossed paths with an unknown individual walking in the opposite direction. At the time, there was no verbal exchange, though the victim noticed the individual gave him a hostile look. About 15 minutes later, as the victim was heading home, the same person allegedly returned, pulled a mask over his face, and began shouting profanity before striking the victim in the stomach.

The blow caused the victim to fall, at which point he felt a sharp pain to his side. The suspect then fled the scene. It was only afterward that the victim realized he had been stabbed. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is now recovering.

Police say the case is unusual because there was no clear demand for property, making it difficult to determine whether the incident was an attempted robbery or a random act of violence. Phone footage captured by the victim during the encounter is now being used to help identify the suspect.

Authorities describe the suspect as a male in his 40s with short, dark hair, wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Gilberto Alcaraz with the Palm Springs Police Department.
