Senate Advances Resolution to Block Trump's Venezuela Military Authority

The Senate voted Thursday to advance a resolution that would block President Trump from using the military within or against Venezuela without congressional approval. The measure passed 52-47, with five Republicans crossing party lines to vote with all 47 Democrats.
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul co-sponsored the legislation. GOP leaders had pushed members to vote against it, arguing it would limit the president's authority.
The resolution now heads to the full Senate, where a final vote is expected next week.
The vote comes after Trump authorized a military operation that seized Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. The president has since threatened a "second wave" of attacks and said the U.S. would "run" the country temporarily.
