Some Tattoo Clients Seek Removal After Artist Faces Child Sex Charges

Some tattoo clients in Cullman County, Alabama, are reconsidering permanent artwork on their bodies after learning the artist who created their tattoos is now facing serious criminal charges.

Jesse Conn has been charged with two counts of sodomy involving minor children. While the case is still pending and Conn is presumed innocent, the allegations have prompted strong reactions from former clients who say they no longer want tattoos associated with him.

Cullman resident Summer Ashley said her tattoos are deeply personal and represent a lasting connection with the artist who created them. After news of the charges surfaced, she shared on social media that she wanted to cover the tattoo Conn had done on her. Many others responded, expressing similar feelings.

Ashley said learning about the allegations changed how she views the artwork. She explained that the same hands that placed permanent ink on her body are now accused of committing acts she finds deeply disturbing.

Local tattoo artists say they understand the emotional reaction. Bre Farr of Silhouette Studios said tattoos are permanent, and when someone associates that art with a negative experience, it can be difficult to live with.

Robby Sadler of The Hive Tattoo Collective in nearby Hartselle has offered discounted reworks and cover-ups to anyone who received tattoos from Conn. He said the goal is to help people move forward without the stigma tied to the allegations.

Several former clients say they plan to take advantage of the offer. Ashley said she appreciated how quickly Sadler stepped in to help, noting that the gesture made a difficult situation easier to handle.

Conn’s trial is currently scheduled for March.
