Trump Signs Order Withdrawing US From 66 International Organizations
President Donald Trump signed a memorandum Wednesday pulling the United States out of 66 international organizations, claiming the groups "no longer serve American interests."
The withdrawal targets 31 United Nations organizations and 35 other international entities. Among them is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change—the foundational treaty that has underpinned global climate cooperation for more than three decades. The US joined the treaty and Congress ratified it in 1992 under President George H.W. Bush.
The move is consistent with the Trump administration's broader skepticism of international bodies. The US has already withdrawn from the World Health Organization since Trump returned to office.
