Emily Bader and Tom Blyth on Bringing 'People We Meet on Vacation' to the Screen
Emily Henry's bestselling novel "People We Meet on Vacation" has made the jump to Netflix, with Emily Bader and Tom Blyth stepping into the roles of Poppy and Alex—two best friends whose annual vacations together mask a deeper romantic tension.
For Bader, playing Poppy felt like familiar territory. "I think a lot of her sort of quirks and energetic things about her, I really do connect with," she said during an interview in New Orleans. "I haven't played a character too similar to me in the past. I've kind of been all around the map. So it's nice to get to do that."
Blyth took a different path to his character. He admitted he initially saw Alex as "a bit of a square," but came around. "I realized he just knows who he is," he said.
The film explores whether deep friendship can evolve into lasting romance—and what that transition actually requires. Bader noted the story raises a question the characters have to work through: is love alone enough to make a relationship work? "Maybe the answer is no," she said. "You need to put in the work."
"People We Meet on Vacation" is now streaming on Netflix.
