Fido Friday Dog of the Week: Meet Chip!
It is time once again for Fido Fridays a weekly segment highlighting a new community program designed to help shelter dogs get a break from the kennel and spend time with local residents. The program called FIDO was created by members of the community and gives locals the opportunity to take a dog out of the shelter for a day. Participants can enjoy a walk a car ride or simply some one on one time while giving shelter dogs valuable socialization and exposure.
Organizers say the program benefits both the dogs and the people who take part. Dogs get a chance to relax explore and interact with new environments while participants enjoy companionship and the chance to make a meaningful difference. This week community contributor Jen Agnew introduces viewers to Chip one of the dogs currently participating in the program. Chip spent the day outside the shelter experiencing new sights smells and plenty of attention.
Advocates say programs like FIDO help reduce stress for shelter animals and can also increase their chances of adoption by showing their personalities outside the shelter setting.
Fido Fridays will continue to highlight different dogs each week and encourage community members to get involved whether by participating in the program fostering or adopting. For more information on how to take part in the FIDO program viewers can contact Pam Solek at pam.solek@gmail.com. Contact the Coachella Valley Animal Campus if you would like to adopt Chip.
