Loneliness a Growing Health Concern for Adults Across Coachella Valley, Local Groups Step In

Loneliness and social isolation are emerging as significant health concerns for adults across the United States, and local leaders say the issue is being felt here in the Coachella Valley as well.

According to national data, loneliness affects roughly one in four adults over the age of 65. Locally, nearly three in ten adults in the Coachella Valley report feeling lonely, raising concerns about long-term physical and mental health impacts.

To address the issue, Welbe Health partnered with the Mizell Center to host a community event focused on resources, education, and connection. Organizers say the goal is to help residents understand available services and reduce isolation through engagement.

Representatives with Welbe Health say collaboration is key. In addition to operating as a day center, the organization works closely with community partners across the valley to ensure seniors can find programs that best meet their needs — whether social, medical, or wellness-focused.

Health professionals at the event emphasized that loneliness can affect people of all ages, but older adults face higher risks due to mobility challenges, health conditions, and the loss of close family members or friends. Addressing isolation, they say, is just as important as managing physical health.

The Mizell Center, a long-standing hub for senior services in Palm Springs, was highlighted as a critical partner in creating opportunities for social connection, education, and healthy living. City leaders say partnerships like these are essential to helping older adults remain active, supported, and connected.

Palm Springs officials noted that working alongside community health organizations ensures seniors have access not only to services, but also to the sense of belonging that contributes to longer, healthier, and more vibrant lives.

Residents seeking more information or support are encouraged to visit Welbe Health’s website to explore available programs and resources.
