Palm Springs International Film Festival Wraps with Family Fun and Powerful Award-Winning Films

The Palm Springs International Film Festival is coming to a close after a packed final weekend that blended family-friendly fun with powerful cinema from around the world.

On Sunday, the festival hosted a free community event at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Cathedral City, welcoming families for a full day of activities and film screenings. Attendees enjoyed free showings of Zootopia 2, Arco, and KPop Demon Hunters, along with face painting, games, prizes, local vendors, and food trucks. The event was open to the public and designed to make the festival accessible to movie lovers of all ages.

Sunday also marked the final full day of screenings for the internationally recognized festival, with award winners announced ahead of the closing slate. Among the standout films was It Would Be Night in Caracas, a haunting and emotionally powerful film adapted from the novel by Karina Sainz Borgo.

Our Manny the Movie Guy spoke with the film’s creative team, including director Marité Ugás and actor Edgar Ramírez, who helped bring the project to life. Ramírez described the film as an “act of love,” explaining that while it reflects the tragedy experienced in Venezuela, the story was intentionally crafted as a universal and human narrative rather than a political one.

The filmmakers emphasized cinema’s power to spark empathy, reminding audiences that fragile democracies and societal collapse are not distant concepts but realities that can affect anyone. Ugás shared that the film is meant to connect emotionally rather than instruct, using storytelling to reflect the human condition during times of crisis.

As the Palm Springs International Film Festival wraps up another successful year, organizers say the mix of community engagement and impactful storytelling continues to define what makes the festival special.
