Rep. Raul Ruiz Says House-Passed Funding Bills Could Bring More Than $6 Million to Coachella Valley

Representative Raul Ruiz took to social media this week to celebrate the U.S. House passing two funding bills that he says would provide significant support for the Coachella Valley and surrounding regions.

Ruiz’s office announced Monday that House Resolution 6938 and House Resolution 5371 have advanced to the U.S. Senate for consideration. If approved by the Senate, the bills would secure more than $6 million in federal funding for a range of infrastructure and public safety projects.

According to Ruiz, the funding would be used to improve flood control infrastructure in Cathedral City, reduce dust pollution near the Salton Sea, and support the construction of a new fire and police station in Westmorland. Westmorland is located in Imperial County, near the Salton Sea, an area that has long faced environmental and air quality concerns.

In his post, Ruiz described the House vote as an important step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure and environmental challenges while improving public safety for local communities.

NBC Palm Springs has reached out to Representative Ruiz’s office for a clearer timeline on when the Senate may consider the House-approved funding measures. At this time, no schedule has been announced.

Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
