Palm Springs Police Seek Additional Victims After Recovering $20K in Suspected Gardening Stolen Tools

Palm Springs police are still looking for potential theft victims after recovering more than $20,000 worth of suspected stolen landscaping and construction equipment from a Moreno Valley residence. Detectives found over 50 high-value tools during an investigation that led to an arrest within 12 hours of a reported theft.

The case began around 4:30 p.m. on December 5, 2025, when a social media post alerted police to equipment stolen from a victim's work truck in Palm Springs. Through the use of multiple camera databases, detectives identified a suspect, 35-year-old Luis Antonio Sanchez Valladres of Moreno Valley.

Police say Valladres had changed license plates on his vehicle multiple times, according to police, but investigators tracked his movements through several Coachella Valley cities to Moreno Valley. By 9 p.m., detectives located the suspect’s vehicle and eventually arrested Valladres during a traffic stop the same night. Police say he matched the individual captured on surveillance footage.

According to officials, Valladres initially denied involvement but eventually directed detectives to a desert area in Desert Hot Springs where the stolen property had been hidden. A search of his garage turned up the additional tools. Valladres was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and additional enhancements. He is expected back in court next Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Detectives have returned several items to their owners and are working to identify additional victims based on the recovered property.
