YouTube Adds New Parental Controls to Limit Teen Screen Time

YouTube is introducing new features designed to give parents greater control over how their teenagers use the popular video platform.

YouTube announced that parents can now set time limits specifically for short-form video viewing on teen accounts. The limits can range from zero minutes up to two hours per day, allowing families to tailor usage based on their preferences.

In addition to time limits, parents will be able to set custom bedtimes and enable “take a break” reminders, encouraging teens to step away from their screens throughout the day. The updates are aimed at helping families manage screen time more effectively while still allowing teens to use the platform responsibly.

YouTube is also making it easier for families who share a device. The company says switching between teen and adult accounts on the same phone will now be simpler, helping ensure the right settings are applied for each user.

The new controls come as concerns continue to grow nationwide over teen screen time and the impact of social media on young users. YouTube says the updates are part of its broader effort to provide families with more transparency and control.
