Former CVUSD Janitor Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

A former Coachella Valley Unified School District janitor was arrested last week on suspicion of possessing child pornography and invasion of privacy.

Carlos Santiago Camacho Jr., 20, of Coachella, was taken into custody on January 7 and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio. The arrest came two days after Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of unlawful invasion of privacy in the 83000 block of Calle Moreno Street on the afternoon of January 5. Camacho had fled the scene before deputies arrived.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Camacho worked as a janitor for the district, but the incident that led to his arrest occurred away from school grounds. CVUSD confirmed in a statement Tuesday that Camacho was a former employee hired in a substitute role.

"The district confirms that an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's has been conducted, and an arrest has been made," the statement read. "Please know that we do not tolerate any inappropriate behavior in our district, and that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority."

It remains unclear which school Camacho worked at. The investigation is ongoing, and bail information was not immediately available.

Camacho is scheduled to appear in court on April 8.
