Nellie N. Coffman Middle School Principal Named Riverside County Principal of the Year
A local school leader is being celebrated for her impact on students and staff across the Coachella Valley.
Riverside County Superintendent Edwin Gomez announced Thursday morning that Melissa Galataud, principal of Nellie N. Coffman Middle School, has been named Riverside County Principal of the Year. The announcement was made during the district’s monthly principals meeting.
The recognition took place in front of fellow administrators and district leaders, including Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Marcus Funchess, who was in attendance for the presentation.
During the announcement, Galataud reflected on her leadership journey and the support she has received along the way.
She credited mentors and colleagues for helping shape her leadership style and emphasized the importance of middle school education, noting that it often does not receive the recognition it deserves. Galataud highlighted the systems her team has put in place to support student success and prepare students for high school and beyond.
Galataud has served on staff at Nellie N. Coffman Middle School for several years and is widely recognized for her commitment to student growth, campus culture, and academic readiness.
District officials praised her dedication to education and her role in helping students build a strong foundation for their future.
