Palm Springs Council Approves Two Affordable Housing Projects, Commits $6 Million in Public Funding

Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved two affordable housing developments Wednesday night, committing roughly $6 million in public funding to bring 192 new units to the city.

The first project—an 82-unit development at 305 West San Rafael Drive—had been appealed by neighboring homeowners who raised privacy concerns after the Planning Commission approved it in November. The council rejected that appeal and also approved a $3.8 million loan to developer Red Tail Multifamily Land Development for construction on the 4-acre undeveloped parcel.

The second project is a 110-unit development at McCarthy Road and San Rafael Drive. Council members approved $2.25 million in funding to Pacific West Communities for land acquisition on the roughly 5-acre site, plus up to $2.5 million in deferred development fees structured as a loan.

Both developments will be 100% affordable housing and qualify for fee reductions under the city's Affordable and Multi-Family Housing Incentive Program.
