911 Transcripts and Video Detail ICE Agent Shooting of Minneapolis Mother During January 7 Encounter
Newly released 911 transcripts, incident reports, and video footage are offering a more detailed look at the January 7 fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis.
According to emergency call transcripts obtained from Minneapolis officials, a 911 caller reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents “just shot a lady,” describing the shooting as occurring at close range while Good was in her vehicle. CNN reports that the incident unfolded amid heightened emotions during a wider immigration enforcement crackdown in the Twin Cities.
Video recorded by the ICE agent, identified by the Department of Homeland Security as 10-year veteran Jonathan Ross, shows him walking near the front of Good’s SUV and toward the driver’s side. In the footage, Good is heard saying, “I’m not mad at you,” while her wife, Becca Good, appears to record the agent and calls for him to show his face. Another officer can be heard telling Good to get out of the car. Moments later, the SUV moves, gunshots are heard, and the vehicle continues forward.
CNN reports that while the agent’s video does not capture the shooting itself, bystander video shows Ross was not in the vehicle’s direct path when he opened fire. The report says he fired into the windshield and then at close range through the open driver’s side window. Minneapolis officials said the shooting occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. local time.
Incident documentation indicates the first 911 call was logged at 9:39 a.m., with multiple callers describing a woman being shot in her car. A fire vehicle arrived around 9:42 a.m., and first responders found Good unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Resuscitation efforts continued as the scene grew more tense, with the incident report noting crowd-control concerns and confusion about who was in charge. The report also indicates the shooting agent had left the scene by 10:03 a.m.
DHS later released a statement accusing Good of an “act of domestic terrorism,” saying the officer fired “defensive shots” after the agency claimed the vehicle was attempting to run over agents. But as video and witness accounts spread, outrage grew, and protesters gathered at the scene for demonstrations and a vigil.
