Sisters Face Off at Palm Springs Unified School District Spelling Bee of Champions
It was a memorable and emotional finish at the Palm Springs Unified School District Spelling Bee of Champions, where the final rounds featured an all-family showdown.
Eighth grader Juniper Donovan of Nellie N. Coffman Middle School went head-to-head with her younger sister, fourth grader Marygold Donovan from Rancho Mirage Elementary. The sister-versus-sister matchup brought plenty of excitement as both students advanced through challenging rounds of competition.
After an intense final, Juniper, last year’s district spelling bee champion, successfully defended her title. She clinched the championship in round 16 by correctly spelling the winning word, “shaman.”
With the victory, Juniper now advances to represent Palm Springs Unified School District at the Riverside County Spelling Bee, scheduled for March 26. Her younger sister, Marygold, will serve as the alternate competitor for the county-level event.
The outcome marked a proud moment for the Donovan family, highlighting not only academic excellence but also determination and composure under pressure. The district’s annual Spelling Bee of Champions continues to showcase students’ hard work and dedication, celebrating achievements across grade levels and schools.
