Legendary Fashion Designer Valentino Garavani Dies at 93

Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion designer whose name became synonymous with red-carpet glamour, has died at his home in Rome. He was 93.
The Valentino Garavani Foundation announced his death today, calling him "a true source of light, creativity and vision" who served as "a constant guide and inspiration."
Known universally by just his first name, Valentino built one of fashion's most recognizable houses over a career that stretched nearly five decades. His designs became favorites of some of the world's most photographed women, from First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis to film stars Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett.
Valentino launched his career in the 1960s and continued shaping haute couture until his retirement in 2008. His elegant designs and signature "Valentino red" left an indelible mark on the fashion industry.
His body will lie in repose at the foundation's Rome headquarters Wednesday and Thursday, with funeral services scheduled for Friday.
