Second Lady Usha Vance Announces Pregnancy With Fourth Child

Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance announced Tuesday that they are expecting their fourth child, a baby boy, due later this summer.

In a joint statement shared on social media, the couple said they are “very excited” about the pregnancy and confirmed that both Usha Vance and the baby are doing well. The child is expected to arrive in late July. The Vances currently have three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel.

The announcement marks a historic moment, as it will be the first time a sitting second lady has given birth while in office. While unprecedented for the vice president’s spouse, there is historical precedent among first ladies. Frances Cleveland gave birth inside the White House in 1893, and Jacqueline Kennedy gave birth to a premature child in 1963.

Usha Vance, 40, stepped away from her career as a high-profile public lawyer after her husband took office. Since then, she has taken on a visible role as second lady, assembling a small staff, settling her family into life at the Naval Observatory, and focusing on childhood literacy initiatives, including a summer reading challenge launched last year.

The couple expressed gratitude to military doctors and medical staff, describing the experience as both exciting and hectic. Despite the growing family, the Vances are expected to continue their official duties, including leading the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan next month.
