Community Clothing Drive Brings Job-Ready Attire to Residents in Need
NBC Palm Springs teamed up with the SunLine Transit Agency to host a community clothing drive aimed at supporting Desert Best Friends Closet, a local nonprofit that helps residents overcome employment barriers by providing professional and semi-formal clothing. The drive was held outside SunLine’s administrative building in Thousand Palms, where donations poured in throughout the morning and afternoon.
Desert Best Friends Closet focuses on helping individuals prepare for job interviews and workforce entry by offering interview attire, résumé assistance, and comprehensive job readiness services. Donations collected during the drive will go directly to clients, helping them dress for success as they pursue employment opportunities.
In addition to professional clothing, the drive also accepted prom dresses for local students and ball gowns for military families attending formal events. Organizers say these items play an important role in helping recipients feel confident and supported during significant life moments.
The nonprofit’s job readiness program, part of its Bridge to Employment initiative, provides support with résumés, cover letters, and interview preparation. Leaders say the goal is to empower participants with the tools and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce.
Donations were accepted through the afternoon, with organizers calling the event a strong example of community collaboration to support education, employment, and empowerment.
