Final Preparations Underway for Milano Cortina Winter Olympics as Venues Near Completion
With just over two weeks to go before the start of the Olympic Winter Games, the final phase of preparations is underway as Italy gets ready to co-host the global event under the Milano Cortina banner.
The Games will be spread across several venues in northern Italy, with a major focus on Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the country’s most iconic winter resorts. Cortina previously hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and is once again set to play a central role.
One of the most closely watched projects is a new cableway designed to transport thousands of spectators from the town center to the Tofane Alpine Skiing Center, where women’s downhill races will take place. The cableway has drawn criticism due to its location in a landslide-prone area and has faced legal challenges from local residents attempting to halt construction.
Despite the controversy, organizers say the project is critical to moving large crowds efficiently during the Games. Cortina is scheduled to host several high-profile events, including bobsleigh, skeleton, luge, curling, and women’s alpine skiing.
The Olympic Winter Games will run from February 6 through February 22, followed by the Paralympic Games. All of the action will be broadcast right here on NBC Palm Springs.
