House Passes Full-Year DHS Funding as Shutdown Deadline Nears
The U.S. House has passed a full-year funding package for the Department of Homeland Security and several other federal agencies, advancing efforts to prevent a partial government shutdown later this month.
The vote on the House floor approved the DHS funding bill, which also provides resources for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the United States Coast Guard through the end of the current fiscal year.
The spending measure now heads to the United States Senate, which is scheduled to return to session next week. Senate approval will be required before the bill can move forward.
In addition to the DHS package, House lawmakers also passed a separate set of funding bills covering other federal agencies. That vote drew broad bipartisan support as part of a wider push to avert a partial government shutdown set for January 31.
If approved by the Senate, the legislation would keep key federal agencies funded through the remainder of the fiscal year while broader budget negotiations continue.
