Oscar Nominations Revealed as “Sinners” Makes History With 16 Nods

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were unveiled this morning, delivering a mix of expected contenders, unexpected omissions, and record-breaking achievements. The announcement was hosted by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman, setting the stage for what many are calling one of the most surprising Oscar races in recent memory.

In the Best Actress category, nominees include Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Song Blue, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, and two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone for Bogotá. Best Actor nominees feature Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, and Cannes winner Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.

Best Director nominations went to Chloé Zhao (Hamnet), Josh Safdie (Marty Supreme), Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another), Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value), and Ryan Coogler (Sinners). Notably absent was Guillermo del Toro, despite his film Frankenstein earning multiple nominations.

The Best Picture lineup includes Bogotá, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams. Missing from the list was Wicked: For Good, which failed to secure any nominations after its predecessor earned ten last year.

Sinners emerged as the morning’s biggest winner, earning a historic 16 nominations—more than Titanic and It Happened One Night. Delroy Lindo received a Best Supporting Actor nod for his role as Delta Slim, a performance widely praised for its emotional depth.

The 98th Academy Awards will air live on March 15, with Conan O’Brien returning as host.
