Palm Desert City Council Considers 10-Year Loan for Large-Scale Art Installation at Civic Center Park
Palm Desert City Council members are considering a 10-year loan agreement with Goldenvoice for a large-scale public art installation at Civic Center Park.
The proposal centers on "Taffy", an interactive artwork created by artist Stephanie Lin. The installation features five vertical towers ranging from approximately 25 to 50 feet tall. Each structure is wrapped in translucent material designed to shift in color and tone as sunlight passes through, creating a dynamic visual experience throughout the day.
City officials say the installation could help boost tourism, strengthen Palm Desert’s cultural branding, and enhance community engagement by bringing a highly visible and interactive piece of art to a central public space.
Under the proposal, Goldenvoice would retain ownership of the artwork, while the City of Palm Desert would be responsible for installation, ongoing maintenance, and site improvements. The total cost to the city is estimated at around $300,000.
City council members are expected to weigh the cultural and economic benefits of the installation against the long-term financial commitment before making a final decision.
