Phil Collins Shares Health Update Ahead of 75th Birthday

Music legend Phil Collins is sharing a candid update on his health as he approaches a milestone birthday.
Collins turns 75 on January 30, and in a recent interview with the BBC, the Grammy-winning singer revealed he is now under 24-hour care as he continues to deal with complications stemming from a spinal injury dating back to 2007.
That injury involved damage to vertebrae in his upper neck and required surgery that ultimately led to lasting nerve damage. Collins told the BBC the effects of that injury are still part of his daily life nearly two decades later.
In addition to his spinal issues, Collins shared that he has undergone five surgeries on his knee. He noted that he now has one knee “that works,” but mobility remains a challenge. He said he is able to walk, though only with assistance such as crutches.
Collins also disclosed that years of heavy drinking took a toll on his kidneys, despite the fact that he has been sober for more than two years.
The health challenges have made it difficult for Collins to perform, including playing drums or appearing on stage with Genesis, the band that helped define his career. He has previously stepped back from live performances due to these limitations.
Despite the struggles, Collins emphasized that he remains grateful. He told the BBC he has lived a very happy life and expressed pride in his five children.
The interview is part of a five-part BBC documentary exploring Collins’ life, career, and lasting impact on music.
