Big Bear Bald Eagle Jackie Lays New Egg!

Big Bear Bald Eagle Jackie Lays New Egg!

Big Bear wildlife fans have reason to celebrate—Jackie, one-half of the area’s favorite Bald Eagle duo with mate Shadow, has laid an egg today! Jackie is especially notable as she is believed to be the first Bald Eagle hatched and fledged right in Big Bear, the offspring of local eagles Ricky and Lucy.

Jackie and her mate Shadow have successfully raised four chicks together in past seasons: Simba, Spirit, Sunny, and Gizmo. While Sunny and Gizmo were last seen on the nest on June 26, 2025, they were not tagged, making it impossible to positively identify them in the wild. Wildlife enthusiasts hope they are thriving on their grand adventures.

Big Bear is a hub for Bald Eagles, including visiting first-year juveniles from Southern California and Arizona. In their early years, Bald Eagles can travel thousands of miles, exploring new territories. Egg-laying season in the area typically occurs from January through April, making this the perfect time for eagle-watchers to keep an eye on the nest.
