Cathedral City Launches Free Outdoor Yoga Series at Amphitheater to Promote Community Wellness

Cathedral City rolled out the mats Tuesday, launching its free outdoor yoga series aimed at promoting health, connection, and wellness in the community.

The 10-week program is being held at the downtown Cathedral City Amphitheater and offers participants a unique way to practice yoga beneath open skies with mountain views as the backdrop. The series includes a gentle yoga class in the morning followed by a more advanced power yoga session.

NBC Palm Springs’ Kai Beach spoke with city leaders and community members during opening day, where organizers shared their excitement about the fifth year of the program.

Antonio Basho, a commissioner with Cathedral City’s Parks and Community Events Commission, says the goal is simple: keep residents healthy while showcasing one of the city’s most beautiful public spaces.

Participants say practicing outdoors adds something special to the experience, allowing them to feel grounded while enjoying fresh air and scenic surroundings. Instructors from Power Yoga Palm Springs are leading the sessions, guiding students through movements designed to support both physical and mental well-being.

City leaders also noted that the program encourages social connection, giving neighbors a chance to meet while focusing on self-care. Funding for the yoga series comes from the Parks and Community Events Commission, with plans already underway to expand offerings to include evening and weekend classes in partnership with Desert Rec.

Organizers say future sessions may feature additional time slots to accommodate growing interest.

The free yoga series is open to the public and continues weekly at the Cathedral City Amphitheater.
