CVUSD Reports Mold Found at Additional District Schools

The Coachella Valley Unified School District is reporting that mold has been discovered at additional campuses in the district, raising renewed concerns about campus safety and environmental conditions.

District representatives say positive mold findings were identified at Desert Mirage High School and Toro Canyon Middle School in Thermal. Testing revealed mold in several shared areas, including an electrical room, a library technology room, and the Desert Mirage attendance office.

According to district officials, certified environmental professionals have been brought in to conduct independent assessments and oversee cleanup and remediation efforts.

In a statement, the district emphasized its commitment to safety, saying, “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Our school communities can be assured that certified experts are overseeing every step to address this issue and ensure a safe environment.”

The latest findings follow earlier reports of mold at John Kelley Elementary School, where parents have filed multiple lawsuits against the district. CVUSD officials say test results at that campus did not detect black mold.

District leaders say they will continue to monitor affected areas and keep families informed as remediation work moves forward. They also stress that all necessary steps are being taken to minimize health risks and prevent future issues.
