Mensch Foundation Hosts 17th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony in Palm Desert

The Mensch International Foundation hosted its 17th annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration this morning in Palm Desert, bringing together community members, students, and international leaders to honor the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust.
The event took place at the Civic Center Park Amphitheater, where hundreds gathered on the lawn as the ceremony got underway. Attendees reflected on the liberation of Auschwitz and the enduring importance of remembering history to promote understanding and prevent future acts of hatred.
Students from schools across the Coachella Valley participated in its attendance, alongside special guest speakers, including the ambassadors of Hungary and Denmark. Their presence highlighted the global significance of Holocaust remembrance and education. The late Harold Matzner and Alan Potash were awarded the Mensch Award posthumously as well.
Steven Geiger, founder and executive director of the Mensch International Foundation and the son of a Holocaust survivor, also played a key role in the ceremony. Geiger has dedicated his life’s work to promoting tolerance, education, and awareness of the Holocaust’s lasting impact.
Organizers say the annual commemoration serves as both a tribute to victims and a call to action for future generations to stand against discrimination and injustice.
