Palm Desert Hosts National Public Lands Day Cleanup This Sunday

Palm Desert is celebrating National Public Lands Day this Sunday, Feb. 1, with a volunteer cleanup event at Homme-Adams Park.
The city is partnering with Friends of the Desert Mountains for the morning of conservation work. While National Public Lands Day is traditionally observed in late September—it started in 1994 and has become the nation's largest single-day volunteer event—Palm Desert moved its celebration to February to take advantage of cooler desert weather.
The day begins at 8 a.m. with a bench dedication honoring former Palm Desert Councilmember Buford Crites, an advocate for local parks and trails. Volunteers will then work in teams to remove non-native species and groom the park's trails. A public lands expo will also give attendees a chance to speak with representatives from local agencies and community partners. A free lunch wraps up the morning.
