Rancho Mirage Writers Festival Kicks Off With Big Names and Big Ideas

The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival is now in full swing after kicking off last night at the Rancho Mirage Library. The annual event runs through the 30th and is drawing authors, speakers, and attendees from across the country and around the world for several days of discussion, debate, and storytelling.

Festival organizers say the event brings together some of the most recognizable voices in American literature, history, and journalism. This year’s headliners include acclaimed filmmaker and historian Ken Burns, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin, and bestselling novelist Michael Connelly.

According to the festival’s executive producer, the goal is to create a space where ideas and opinions can be shared openly, allowing audiences to interact directly with authors and thought leaders. Programming includes a wide range of topics, from fiction and nonfiction to history, politics, and the evolving state of the nation.

In addition to literary discussions, the festival also explores broader conversations about America’s past, present, and future. Organizers say these discussions are designed to engage audiences on current issues while offering historical context and diverse perspectives.

Among the highlights of the festival is a panel scheduled for tonight featuring former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who served under the Biden administration. Festival officials say the lineup reflects their mission to blend storytelling with timely and meaningful dialogue, making the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival a standout cultural event in the Coachella Valley.
