Sen. Amy Klobuchar Announces Run for Minnesota Governor

Sen. Amy Klobuchar announced Thursday that she is running for governor of Minnesota, entering the race after Gov. Tim Walz said earlier this month that he would not seek a third term.
Klobuchar, currently serving her fourth term in the U.S. Senate, confirmed her candidacy in a video posted to social media. "I believe we must stand up for what's right, and fix what's wrong," she said. "That's why today I'm announcing my candidacy for Governor of the State of Minnesota."
In the announcement, Klobuchar addressed recent unrest in the state, including two fatal shootings of U.S. citizens by federal agents that have sparked protests in Minnesota and nationally. She also discussed an alleged fraud investigation that President Trump has cited as justification for increased immigration enforcement activities in the state. Klobuchar, who previously served as Hennepin County Attorney, vowed to ensure those who steal taxpayer money face prosecution.
Klobuchar's Senate seat is not up for reelection until 2030. If she wins the governor's race, she would have the authority to appoint her own replacement until a special election is held.
