Lindsey Vonn Airlifted After Crash in Final Race Before Olympics

American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn crashed during a World Cup downhill race in Switzerland on Friday, her final event before the Winter Olympics. She was airlifted off the mountain for medical evaluation.

Vonn lost control in difficult conditions and slid into the safety netting at high speed. After receiving initial medical attention on the course, she was able to ski down the rest of the mountain but was visibly favoring her left knee before being transported for further treatment.

The 40-year-old has been the World Cup circuit's top female downhill skier this season, with two victories and three other podium finishes. Her strong form marked a remarkable return to competition following a partial titanium knee replacement in her right knee.

It's not yet known how the crash will affect her Olympic appearance.
