Winter Storm Pushes Gas Prices Higher Nationwide
The massive winter storm that swept across much of the country is now affecting prices at the pump.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has climbed to $2.87, according to AAA. Below-freezing temperatures and lingering snow slowed crude oil production and disrupted refinery operations in several regions. At the same time, demand spiked as drivers rushed to fill up ahead of the severe weather.
Despite the recent increase, prices remain below last year's national average of $3.12 at this time.
California drivers are seeing higher costs. The statewide average currently sits at $4.29 per gallon, while Riverside County is slightly lower at $4.17.
