Father-Son Football Rivalry Heats Up as Super Bowl 60 Brings Seahawks and Patriots Together Again
In Underhill, Sunday football is more than just a game for the Rodriguez family—it’s a tradition built on friendly competition and shared memories.
Gerber Rodriguez has been a lifelong Seahawks fan, growing up in Seattle where sports shaped his identity. When his son Sam was born, Gerber introduced him early to the team, even dressing him in Seahawks gear. But growing up in New England led Sam down a different path, and he eventually pledged his loyalty to the Patriots.
That split fandom has created a playful rivalry between father and son, one that’s strengthened their bond over the years.
One moment still stands out: Super Bowl 49. Sam vividly remembers the goal-line interception that sealed the game, and he’s made sure his dad never forgets it.
Now, with Super Bowl 60 approaching, the Seahawks and Patriots are set to face off once again—bringing renewed excitement to the Rodriguez household.
Game day will include friends, food, and spirited debate, but both say the heart of the experience is spending time together.
“This is something that brings us closer,” Sam said. “It’s a time we can spend together watching the game that we both love.”
For Gerber, seeing his son develop his own passion for football has been the most rewarding part.
“It’s been remarkable watching him grow and how much love he has for the game,” he said.
As kickoff nears, the family is preparing for another memorable Super Bowl—rooting for different teams, but united by their love of football.
