Fulton County Attorneys Sue Trump Administration Over Seizure of 2020 Election Records

Fulton County, Georgia, is suing the Trump administration over the FBI's seizure of 2020 election records, according to a county commissioner.
The lawsuit, set to be filed Monday against the FBI and Justice Department, alleges the warrant used in the operation was illegal. Last week, agents removed roughly 700 boxes of election materials—including ballots, ballot images and voter rolls—from the county's election office.
In a release announcing the suit, county attorneys called the seizure "criminal" and demanded the return of all materials taken. The county is also pressing the FBI to protect voter information contained in the seized records.
According to the commissioner, the FBI had the right to copy the ballots under an earlier court order but did not have permission to physically remove the documents.
The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
President Trump lost Georgia in the 2020 presidential election—a result he has continued to claim was stolen. Georgia was among several states where he attempted to overturn the results. There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
